Klungkung. The Klungkung Municipal Police has shut down the flying fox attraction at Diamond Beach in Pejukutan Village, Nusa Penida in Bali, for operating without the required permits. This decision came after an inspection triggered by a viral video on social media featuring the attraction.

The flying fox stretches between two cliffs, standing about 30 meters high and overlooking the open sea. The viral TikTok video showed a child using the flying fox but becoming stuck midway, which led to panic among onlookers. Fortunately, the child was able to slide down by shifting her body.

Dewa Putu Suarbawa, head of the municipal police, said Tuesday that an inspection took place on July 9, alongside other agencies such as the Public Works Department, the Nusa Penida District Office, and the Environmental Agency.

During the inspection, the company operating the flying fox was unable to present the required permits. Consequently, the business owner was summoned on July 12, for a meeting with relevant parties.

“Based on the assessments from various regional organizations, it was decided at the meeting to close the flying fox attraction as of July 12,” Suarbawa told Balipuspanews.com, a part of the B-Universe media network.

The flying fox operator has expressed a willingness to comply with all licensing requirements before resuming operations. The attraction began operating on July 2, 2024.

“I have requested that the flying fox operators promptly secure their permits. While the role of investors is crucial for developing the tourism sector, they must adhere to the regulations in place in Klungkung,” Suarbawa said.
