Coach Shin Tae-yong Gets Upset after Nine Players Skip Training
Surabaya. Indonesia’s football national team head coach Shin Tae-yong looked very upset when he found that nine players failed to show up during the important training session Thursday afternoon ahead of the FIFA Match Day.
Indonesia will host a friendly with Palestine in less than a week, followed by the much-awaited encounter against world champion Argentina, which already included football superstar Lionel Messi in the tentative line-up.
Shin immediately came to the training camp in the East Java capital of Surabaya upon arrival from South Korea, but only 15 of the 26 players on his selection list greeted him.
Shin admitted that he felt “uncomfortable” with the situation which hampers the physical exercises he scheduled for that day.
"Fitness remains our one weakness. Players competing in the league should have no problem [with schedules] because the competition was concluded and they have long holidays,” Shin said.
His remarks were apparently directed at clubs who retained their players despite the conclusion of Liga 1 in April.

Shin Tae-yong Criticized for SelectingWith only five days left before the match against Palestine, the coach is focused on physical exercises rather than tactical simulations.
"The overall physical condition of our players doesn’t seem to be perfect. We don’t have much time to improve their fitness but we will focus on boosting their strength,” he said.
Indonesia is ranked 149th in FIFA Men’s World Ranking and the results from the upcoming friendlies will affect the country’s position.
Indonesia will play Palestine (ranked 93rd) at Bung Tomo Stadium in Surabaya on June 14, followed by a match against Argentina at Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta on June 19.
Shin has selected eight naturalized players into the squad including Marc Klok, Stefano Lilipaly, Jordi Amat, Elkan Baggott, Sandy Walsh, Rafael Struick, Shayne Pattynama, and Ivar Jenner.
