Jakarta. The Nusantara authority body said Thursday that civil servants would not need to worry about moving to the yet-to-be-built capital city as it would have all the facilities they need. 

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo recently announced that civil servants would begin moving to Nusantara this July. The project, including the apartment towers for the civil servants, is still a work in progress, thus sparking hesitancy among the public employees. According to Nusantara authority head Bambang Susantono, the State Apparatus Ministry --as well as the State Secretariat-- are in charge of coordinating the civil servant relocation. 

“But we, the city’s authority body, have done some work on our side. So when the [relocation happens], we will have the educational and healthcare facilities ready. If they have health problems, they can get them treated. If God is willing, everything [the facilities] will be ready,” Bambang told reporters in Jakarta.

Last week, Jokowi launched the “topping-off” -- the late-stage construction phase -- of the apartment towers that will house the relocated civil servants as well as police officers. According to Jokowi, 12 towers are expected to be finished by July, while 21 others shall complete construction by October. Another 14 apartment towers will reach completion by November. 

“Civil servants as well as the defense and security personnel will begin moving to Nusantara in July,” Jokowi told the press shortly after the topping-off ceremony.

“This is a long-term project, but we must start [the work]. We have done the topping-off to show that the towers are almost done. They are half done,” Jokowi said.

Construction work for hospitals has begun. This includes the Abdi Waluyo hospital project which is worth Rp 2 trillion (approximately $127.8 million). In November 2023, the future capital city broke ground on its first international school, the Nusantara Intercultural School. Media reports show that the next groundbreaking ceremony is set to take place in May, with the upcoming phase putting more focus on education-related projects.
