Jakarta. The General Election Supervisory Board (Bawaslu) has resolved a total of 140 cases involving legal violations during the 2024 Elections.

Among these cases, Bawaslu indicated that the majority consisted of administrative violations, totaling 71 cases, followed by 63 criminal violations, with the remainder comprising other legal infractions.

"Nearly half of these criminal cases have been substantiated, underscoring the pressing need for more effective law enforcement during electoral processes," the Head of Bawaslu Rahmat Bagja said in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Bagja revealed that Bawaslu received approximately 1,500 reports, further supplemented by 700 findings from Bawaslu concerning alleged violations during the elections.

Acknowledging the challenge of handling cases based on reports or findings, Bagja affirmed Bawaslu's commitment to investigating each case with sufficient evidence, irrespective of its virality on social media.

"Every vote at polling stations (TPS) and every vote in the recapitulation must carry the same weight in determining the final outcome," he emphasized.

Furthermore, Bagja mentioned that disputes over legislative elections always dominate compared to disputes related to the presidential election. He cited the case of the permanent voter list (DPT) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, which purportedly revealed violations due to non-compliance with legal procedures.

"In Kuala Lumpur, only 68,000 out of approximately 440,000 Indonesian citizens were verified as voters. This case underscores the need for a comprehensive evaluation of the postal method used in recording Indonesian citizens abroad," he elaborated.

Since 2008, Bagja noted that Bawaslu has overseen the electoral process and successfully prosecuted electoral crimes, including cases in Kuala Lumpur. However, he acknowledged the added complexity in handling cases outside the country.

Expressing pride in bringing the Kuala Lumpur case to the judicial stage, Bagja concluded, "In the history of election supervision since 2008, electoral crimes abroad can now be prosecuted. We have made significant progress."
