Jakarta. The Jakarta Provincial Government has decided to implement remote learning in 2,829 schools across various education levels in the capital city.

Governor Pramono Anung stated that this policy is temporary and situational. Evaluations will be carried out based on developments in the field, particularly regarding demonstrations related to public aspirations.

“If we see improvements in Jakarta and things return to normal, of course schools will resume in-person classes. But in the instruction issued by the head of the education office, I asked that no time limit be set. The policy can be revoked at any time,” Pramono said in Slipi, West Jakarta, on Tuesday.

Jakarta Education Agency Head, Nahdiana, explained that remote learning applies to schools affected by demonstrations, either because they are located nearby or because access is disrupted. Parents’ requests were also taken into consideration.

“Some schools are close to the demonstration sites or have access issues, and some parents requested it. Therefore, learning from home is permitted,” Nahdiana explained.

However, for educational institutions not falling under those categories, schools are allowed to choose between fully in-person learning, full remote learning, or a hybrid system.

The government will continue to evaluate this policy based on the latest situation. “The remote learning policy could even be revoked tomorrow if conditions allow,” Nahdiana added.

Not only for students, the Jakarta Provincial Government has also issued an appeal for the public to work from home starting Monday.

This policy is outlined in two circulars issued by the Jakarta Manpower, Transmigration and Energy Office, as well as the Jakarta Education Office. The decision was taken as a precautionary measure in case of further demonstrations.

The circular stated that WFH is implemented as an effort to minimize potential disruptions to public activities caused by ongoing demonstrations in several locations.

However, companies engaged in essential activities or providing 24-hour direct services are still allowed to combine WFH and work-from-office (WFO) arrangements.

The Jakarta Government continues to monitor the situation and coordinate with security forces to ensure conditions remain conducive. Residents are advised to stay alert and follow updates only from official news sources.
