Paris. Rafael Nadal, a 14-time French Open champion, likely made his final appearance at Roland Garros on Day 3 of the Paris Olympics. A lively crowd honored Nadal as he faced Novak Djokovic in the second round of the men’s tennis tournament, marking their 60th and possibly last encounter.

Despite his 6-1, 6-4 loss to Djokovic, Nadal's fans chanted "Ra-fa! Ra-fa!" as he walked onto the court and rallied to win four consecutive games in the second set. At 38, Nadal's game has visibly declined, yet he remained non-committal about retirement. He is still competing in doubles with Carlos Alcaraz for Spain. Nadal stated, "When I decide to stop playing, or when I decide to keep going, I will let you know."

Gauff's Dominant Performance
Coco Gauff continues to impress at the Paris Olympics, securing a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Argentina's Maria Lourdes Carle in the second round of singles. Despite committing 26 unforced errors and only landing 55% of her first serves, Gauff, the reigning US Open champion and world No. 2, was pleased with the outcome.

"You can't argue with the scoreline, to be honest," the 20-year-old American remarked.

McIntosh Shines in the Pool
Canadian prodigy Summer McIntosh won her first gold medal with a commanding performance in the 400-meter individual medley. McIntosh, 17, had earlier secured a silver in the 400 freestyle, finishing behind Australia's Ariarne Titmus and ahead of Katie Ledecky.

Another Teen Victory
Romanian teenager David Popovici claimed gold in the men's 200 freestyle. The 19-year-old triumphed in a close race, finishing just 0.02 seconds ahead of Britain's Matthew Richards, with American Luke Hobson taking bronze.

Australia's 1-2 Finish
Australia's Mollie O'Callaghan and Ariarne Titmus secured a 1-2 finish in the women's 200-meter freestyle, with O'Callaghan denying Titmus her second gold of the Games. Titmus had previously won the 400-meter freestyle.

Japan's Gymnastics Triumph
The Japanese men’s gymnastics team overcame a strong Chinese team to win Olympic gold in a dramatic comeback. Japan surged ahead on the final rotation, capitalizing on mistakes by China’s Su Weide. The U.S. men’s team won bronze, their first medal since 2008.

US Women's Water Polo Upset
The US women's water polo team suffered a rare Olympic defeat, losing 13-11 to Spain. This loss jeopardizes their quest for a fourth consecutive gold medal, a feat no water polo team has achieved.

China's Diving Dominance
China secured gold in the synchronized 10-meter platform diving event, with Lian Junjie and Yang Hao delivering a stellar performance. This victory marks China's 49th gold in Olympic diving, solidifying their dominance.

Soccer Appeal
Canada appealed FIFA's six-point deduction in a drone-spying scandal. A verdict is expected before their crucial match against Colombia on Wednesday.

FIFA punished Olympic defending champion Canada on Saturday — and banned coach Bev Priestman and two assistant coaches for one year — for allegations of using a drone to spy on New Zealand’s practices.

Triathlon Concerns
Poor water quality in the Seine led to the cancellation of the swimming portion of the triathlon training for a second day. Organizers are hopeful conditions will improve for the competition.

The sport’s governing body, World Triathlon, its medical team, and city officials are banking on sunny weather and higher temperatures to bring levels of E. coli and other bacteria below the necessary limits to stage the swim portion of the race, which also includes biking and running.
