Traffic Police Launches C1 License for 250 CC+ Bikes, Adds Attitude Test
Jakarta. The Indonesian National Traffic Police Corps has begun issuing the C1 driver's license (SIM C1) across Indonesia. The SIM C1 is designated for motorcycle riders with engines ranging from 250 to 500 CC.
"Today, we are witnessing the launch of the SIM C1. This is a mandate from a 2021 police regulation, specifically Regulation No. 5 of 2021, which we are implementing three years later," said Aan Suhanan, Head of the Traffic Corps, at the Jakarta Police Licensing Center in Daan Mogot, West Jakarta on Monday.
Aan said that riders who wish to obtain the SIM C1 must meet several requirements, including passing tests and having held a SIM C for at least one year. Previously, there was only the SIM C available for all types of motorcycles.
"The exams and other requirements are adjusted to the competencies needed for the SIM C1, which covers 250 cc to 500 cc motorcycles," he explained.
Additionally, Aan mentioned that applicants for the SIM C1 will also undergo an attitude test to assess their behavior when riding large motorcycles in a convoy, as well as a theoretical exam.
"We already have a set of competencies, which include specific skills. The licensing center will test how well applicants can handle motorcycles with engines ranging from 250 to 500 CC," he added.
The Traffic Corps has provided Hunter Scrambler SK500 motorcycles for the practical exams of the CI license.
For motorcycles above 500 cc, drivers must acquire a SIM C2. The enforcement of SIM C2 is anticipated next year, considering that holding a CI license for at least one year is a prerequisite.
The fee for obtaining the license remains the same across all categories, at Rp 75,000.
