Jakarta. The National Police’s Traffic Corps (Korlantas) has implemented "ZZ" as the new identifier for VIP license plates exclusively designated for high-ranking state officials.

The fresh identifier, positioned at the end of the alphanumeric sequence, replaces "RF" and "QH," which have been widely misappropriated by private vehicle owners.

"The new license plate identifier is specifically for state vehicles and is not applicable to private vehicles," Brig. Gen. Yusri Yunus, the director of vehicle registration with Korlantas, said on Tuesday.

Vehicles adorned with the VIP license plate are restricted to state officials with a minimum rank of echelon 2, he added.

This decision arises in response to growing criticism regarding the misuse of VIP license plates by private vehicle owners attempting to evade police checks or exploit traffic privileges, particularly during rush hours.

Historically, VIP identifiers were traded for substantial amounts, reaching tens of millions of rupiah.

Yusri said the introduction of the new "ZZ" identifier aims to eliminate any potential for misuse. He stated firmly that no private vehicle, regardless of its high value in billions of rupiah, is entitled to this identifier. 

"Once again, only state vehicles can carry this identifier," he said.
