K-Pop Idol Carmen Shares Spotlight With Prabowo, Lee Jae-myung in Korea-Indonesia Moment
Seoul. A photo of Indonesian K-pop idol Carmen alongside South Korean President Lee Jae-myung has drawn public attention after being shared on his Instagram, as part of a post highlighting his meeting with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto in Seoul on Wednesday.
The post featured a series of moments underscoring bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and South Korea, including one image of Lee alongside Prabowo and another that spotlighted Carmen.
Carmen, a Bali-born member of girl group Hearts2Hearts, first gained recognition through Indonesian Idol before debuting under SM Entertainment, marking a notable milestone for Indonesian representation in the K-pop industry.
In the caption, Lee emphasized the importance of bilateral cooperation, writing: “If we move forward together, we can go further. President Prabowo’s words left a strong impression on me. As special strategic partners, South Korea and Indonesia will continue to deepen cooperation and advance together for the shared prosperity of both nations.”
The inclusion of both a head-of-state meeting and a rising Indonesian pop figure in the same post was widely seen as reflecting the breadth of ties between the two countries, spanning diplomacy, economy, and cultural exchange.
Prabowo’s visit to South Korea forms part of Indonesia’s broader diplomatic engagement in East Asia aimed at strengthening bilateral ties. He was accompanied by Foreign Minister Sugiono, Coordinating Economic Minister Airlangga Hartarto, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia, and Communications and Digital Minister Meutya Hafid, among others.
Upon arrival, Prabowo was received by South Korean officials including Climate, Energy, and Environment Minister Kim Sung-whan, Ambassador-designate to Indonesia Yoon Soon-gu, Chief of State Protocol Kim Tae-jin, and Director General for ASEAN and Southeast Asia at the Foreign Ministry Lee Dong-gyu.
