Jakarta. The number of foreign tourist arrivals to Indonesia reached 1.39 million in September 2025, a 7.33 percent decline from the record 1.51 million recorded in August, according to data released Monday by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS).

“The monthly decline is normal after we reached the highest post-pandemic record in August 2025,” said Pudji Ismartini, BPS Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics, during a press briefing in Jakarta.

Despite the month-on-month decrease, cumulative data from January to September 2025 showed a 10.22 percent year-on-year increase, totaling 11.43 million international visitors -- continuing Indonesia’s steady recovery trajectory since the COVID-19 pandemic.

Foreign arrivals had risen sharply in recent years: from 1.09 million in 2021, to 3.49 million in 2022, 8.62 million in 2023, and 10.37 million in 2024, reflecting strong momentum in the country’s tourism rebound.

By country of origin, Malaysia accounted for the largest share of foreign visitors in September, contributing 19.5 percent of total arrivals, followed by Australia (11.97 percent) and Singapore (8.5 percent).

Meanwhile, Indonesians traveling abroad reached 695,908 trips in September, bringing the total number of outbound trips to 6.82 million in the first nine months of 2025 -- a 2.51 percent increase from the same period last year.

Domestic tourism also showed robust growth. Indonesian residents made 94.36 million domestic leisure trips in September alone. From January to September 2025, total domestic travel reached 900.9 million trips, up 18.99 percent year-on-year, underscoring the continued strength of Indonesia’s internal tourism market.
