Lombok. The Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, has dismissed rumors about a tourism fund levy being added to airline tickets.

Minister Sandiaga Uno emphasized that no levy is imposed on the public, particularly given the current economic situation.

"The discussion about the levy is only a proposal for tourism funding," he said in Lombok on Friday.

Sandiaga Uno explained that the idea was brought up during a meeting discussing tourism funding. However, after considering input from various stakeholders, including the public, it was decided that no levy would be imposed on the people.

"I understand that the president does not want to burden the public further, especially considering that airline tickets are already quite expensive," he emphasized.

He reiterated that the initial concept of tourism funding relies on government funds, not public levies.

Furthermore, Sandiaga Uno explained that the government is focused on increasing the number of flights and aircraft to increase tourist numbers.

The Indonesia Tourism Fund aims to manage Rp 2 trillion (approximately $129 million) in its first year. The initial funds will come entirely from the government budget. According to Minister Sandiaga Uno, the government plans to start distributing funds for eligible events in 2024.

Sandiaga stated that the Indonesia Tourism Fund is intended to support events, promote tourism, and enhance Indonesia’s national branding.

The tourism sector is expected to generate more than Rp 220 trillion this year. On average, foreign tourists spend $1,500 when visiting Indonesia.
