Prabowo’s Foreign Outreach Opens New Export Gateways for Indonesia: Trade Minister
Tangerang. President Prabowo Subianto’s international diplomacy has helped open new export markets for Indonesian products worldwide, Trade Minister Budi Santoso said on Wednesday.
Speaking at the opening of the Trade Expo Indonesia in Tangerang, Budi said Indonesia now maintains 20 active international trade agreements, including Preferential Trade Agreements (PTA), Free Trade Agreements (FTA), and Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreements (CEPA).
“Thanks to the President’s support and international diplomacy, trade agreements have been concluded more efficiently. This has opened Indonesia’s export doors to the world,” Budi said.
He added that Indonesia is currently finalizing the ratification of 10 trade deals and negotiating 16 additional agreements with countries across multiple regions.
Among the key milestones this year are the Indonesia–Peru CEPA, signed in Jakarta on August 11, 2025; the Indonesia–Canada CEPA, signed in Ottawa on September 24, 2025; and ongoing negotiations with the European Union, the Eurasian Economic Union, and Tunisia.
Other major discussions include the Indonesia–Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) FTA, designed to expand market access in the Middle East, and the Indonesia–Mercosur CEPA, aimed at strengthening economic ties with Latin America.
As Southeast Asia’s largest economy, Indonesia is also leveraging its membership in the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) -- the world’s largest trade bloc -- while seeking deeper integration with ASEAN supply chains and global value networks.
“These achievements mark a new chapter in Indonesia’s trade expansion across North and Latin America, Europe, Asia, and Africa,” Budi said.
Indonesia’s renewed trade diplomacy under President Prabowo aligns with the country’s broader strategy to diversify export destinations and reduce reliance on traditional markets such as China, Japan, and the United States.
Indonesia also aims to become a manufacturing and export hub for sectors ranging from minerals and electronics to food products and textiles, supporting its goal of becoming a top-10 global economy by 2045.
