Indonesian Consumer Complaints Reach $1.1 Million in 2025
Jakarta. Indonesian consumer complaints received by the Trade Ministry throughout 2025 totaled nearly Rp 18.2 billion, or approximately $1.1 million, in transaction value, according to the government.
The Trade Ministry data showed that it had received 7,526 consumer complaints throughout last year, many of which were related to online transactions. About 258 individuals asked questions, while some 103 consumers simply made inquiries. The transaction value of the complaints also went up 379% year-on-year (yoy) from approximately Rp 3.8 billion recorded in 2024.
“[Indonesian consumers] are now brave to voice problems and fight for their rights through appropriate channels,” Moga Simatupang, a senior official at the Trade Ministry, was quoted as saying in a press statement on Monday.
Most of these complaints came from buyers on online shopping platforms. Indonesia hosts a large internet user population. More people are now relying on e-commerce platforms, and sometimes the items they have ordered do not meet their expectations.
On payment issues, many consumers have expressed concerns over “pay-later” and credit card use. A lot of the consumers also had trouble with balance top-ups. Some of the complainants were vehicle buyers struggling with damaged items and problems related to guarantee claims, according to Moga.
The government is still working on 34 complaints related to electronics, vehicles, and tourism services, while the rest are already resolved.
