Jakarta. Ports across Java and Sumatra have been bustling with activity as cargo ships arrive carrying bags of milled rice from neighboring countries since the beginning of this month.

In the past week alone, two vessels from Thailand and Myanmar docked at Probolinggo Port in East Java, bringing a combined total of 8,200 tons of rice.

Workers are in the process of unloading 3,200 tons of Thai rice that arrived last week, while another vessel carrying 5,000 tons of rice from Myanmar arrived on Saturday morning, according to Yoga Prastiyadi, an official with the state logistics agency (Bulog) in Probolinggo.

The rice deliveries will be temporarily stored at Bulog warehouses in Probolinggo regency.
