Jakarta. Chinese automaker BYD topped electric car sales at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show 2024 (GIIAS), held from July 18-28, with 2,920 electric vehicles sold. BYD was followed by Wuling, Hyundai, and GAC Aion in sales.

BYD Indonesia currently offers four electric car models: BYD Atto 3, BYD Dolphin, BYD Seal, and the newly launched BYD M6.

"Interest in electric vehicles in Indonesia is growing, as evidenced by the enthusiastic public response, with 2,181 test drives of the BYD M6 conducted during the exhibition," stated BYD Indonesia's official release.

Trailing behind BYD, Wuling sold 1,818 electric vehicles at GIIAS 2024.

South Korean automaker Hyundai couldn't match BYD's sales. Despite showcasing new models Hyundai Kona Electric and Hyundai Ioniq 5 N alongside the existing Hyundai Ioniq 5, Hyundai sold only 1,210 electric vehicles, including 627 units of the Hyundai Kona Electric, 130 units of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, and 453 units of the Hyundai Ioniq 5.

GAC Aion also fell short of BYD's figures, selling 1,009 electric vehicles over the 11 days of GIIAS 2024.

Shanghai-based Chinese automaker Neta recorded even smaller numbers, with just 327 electric vehicles sold.
